10 reasons why sand is better than snow

By billlluther,

  1. It’s easier to get sand off your shoes than snow.
  2. A sand castle is just as compelling as a snowman.
  3. Sand is at the beach and the beach is awesome.
  4. Frostbite is impossible to get in sand.
  5. Sand feels better between your toes.
  6. Sand crabs are only found in the sand,.
  7. You can bury your friends in the sand and they won’t get hypothermia.
  8. Sally never sells seashells by the snow shore.
  9. It’s really cold if you wear your bathing suit to make snow angels.
  10. Beach chairs sink in the snow. And then your butt gets cold. And nobody likes that.

How to keep your home clean when hosting a holiday

By billlluther,

I think we can all agree the worst thing about a huge holiday meal, aside from the impending food coma that lays you out for hours, is the clean up afterwards. Plates, cups, utensils, mixing bowls, spatulas, pots, pans, measuring spoons – kind of like a Williams Sonoma hurricane blew through.

We, at Bill Luther Vacation Rentals, feel your pain. Which is why this year, we are offering you a solution for that.

Make your holiday dinner at a Mission Beach vacation rental instead. That way when you accidentally knock your wine glass over on to the counter covered with flour that you’d planned to roll out the pie crusts on, you won’t feel as bad when the resulting pinkish sludge that dried in the corner doesn’t come all the way off the counter top. That’s what you paid a cleaning fee for.

The turducken explodes in the oven, raining stuffing, meat bits, and juices everywhere? We’ve got a service that will set the self-clean option once you check-out.

All the forks have been used and there’s nothing but butter knives left to eat your pie and ice cream with? All of our Mission Beach vacation rentals come equipped with dishwashers. We even supply the dishwasher soap. Technically, we don’t offer dishwasher loading services, as a full-service property management company, but if a piece of that pie with ice cream was offered up in exchange, I think we could be persuaded.

Still little bits of ribbon and wrapping paper scattered all over the room because Aunt Daisy found the scissors and she fashions herself a Henri Matisse from his Cut-Outs period? Someone else will be vacuuming once you vacate.

Don’t even want Aunt Daisy there? Tell her the vacation rental management company has a strict maximum for people staying in the unit, and you’re sorry but between the kids and your parents, you’re all filled up.

We think that about covers it. And whether you choose to take us up on this offer, we hope you have a safe and enjoyable holiday season.

Some days call for burritos

By billlluther,

Under our list of places we love to eat at, here in the Mission Beach area, is La Playa Taco Shop. The hot sauces are yummy – both the green and the red. I don’t know about you, but we often find that with most taco shops, it’s one or the other. We can even switch off bites, one bite with red sauce, one bite with green sauce – they are both that good.

Our faves are the bean and cheese burrito with sour cream, the rolled tacos, the enchiladas, and the veggie burrito – to name a few. That said, we’ve yet to meet anyone who didn’t love their food. So if you haven’t been there – give it a try. You won’t regret it.

What to really do when the jellyfish sting

By billlluther,

There’s a lot of information floating around out there about what to do when stung by a jellyfish. While we, at Bill Luther Vacation Rentals, are not medical professionals, we have seen enough instances to generally recommend what works best and what doesn’t.

Contrary to what Joey Tribiani would have us believe when Monica Geller was stung, you do not have to find a friend who loves you enough to relieve themselves on your sting to get rid of the burn.

  • Instead, try rinsing the area with vinegar. If vinegar is not available, use a baking soda solution.
  • Also, make sure to remove any lingering tentacles from your skin with tweezers.
  • Soaking the area in hot water (not scalding) may also help to reduce the pain.

Important points to keep in mind.

  • Just because the jellyfish is on the sand does not mean it can’t sting you any longer. Make sure not to touch them or step on them.
  • Similar to wolves on land, jellyfish like to travel in pacts.
  • Also similar to wolves, jellyfish will attack in groups to defend their territory.
  • Note to self – avoid packs of jellyfish

Of course, the best thing to do is avoid the jellyfish altogether, thereby negating the need to treat the sting.

  • Sit on the patio of your ocean front vacation rental and yell suggestions to the poor saps on the sand and in the water who do get stung.
  • Maybe offer them some vinegar or tweezers if you are feeling hospitable.
  • Be sure to keep a sympathetic look on your face, while feeling triumphant in your sting avoidance success.
